2015 Playwright Confab holds in Kwara State





The second Playwrights’ Confab, which brings together playwrights from all over the country, has been scheduled for the first weekend of March 2015 (Friday 6th to Sunday 8th).
Scheduled to hold in Kwara State Council for Arts and Culture, Ilorin, Kwara State, The host is Kwara State University Malete, Ilorin, Kwara State, the Chief Host is the Vice Chancellor, KWASU, Prof AbdulRasheed Na’Allah while the Convener is the distinguished Prof Femi Osofisan.
The Confab, according to a statement made available to Newswatch Times, is a follow-up to the first one convened by  Prof Osofisan in 2013 at the Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, which brought together a staggering number of 136 participants, and exposed the enormous amount of work going on in this area, but which was previously unknown.
“In line with the decision taken at that meeting to make the Confab a biennial affair, we are happy to inform you that the Kwara State University in Malete, Ilorin, Kwara State, has kindly accepted to host this second one,” the statement read.
The confab organisers have advised interested participants to send their letters via e-mail to:  either ‘abiola-fasoranti@kwasu.edu.ng’ or ‘biolapearl@yahoo.com
and copy to: ‘okinbalaunko@yahoo.com’ in order for the organizers to make adequate arrangements for participants’ comfort..
In the same vein, the confab organizer hinted that a pre-confab workshop (5-day playwriting workshop) would hold from March 4 to March 8, 2015 to precede and lead to the confab. “This is exclusively for young and aspiring playwrights, and attendance is therefore totally free-of-charge, including boarding and feeding. Participants will arrive on Sunday March 1st and depart on March 8th.
“The number of places available unfortunately has to be limited. Therefore all intending participants at the workshop are to submit a short excerpt, of not more than two pages, from a play in English that they themselves have written (but not necessarily published) to the same addresses above. The deadline for the submission is February 15, 2015. Those selected for the workshop will be notified latest by February 20, 2015.”
